Every year in the late summer, Bells of The Lakes conducts a seminar to encourage and educate handbell ensemble directors and ringers. There are three tracks of classes for the event: Director’s Enrichment, Ringing to the Next Level, and Beginning Handbells. Come and join us for this fun event to kick off your season of ringing this Fall.
Director’s Enrichment Track:
Whether you have been directing for a few years or for decades, this day of enrichment is for you. Join us as we discuss music selection, score analysis, conducting, bell assignments, bells in worship, teaching difficult rhythms, and leading children and youth handbell choirs.
Ringing to the Next Level Track:
Get ready for another year of ringing by joining our all day ringing track. Learn how to challenge yourself, become more versatile, and increase your musicianship. Topics to be addressed include: refreshing our technique, handchimes, sight-reading, rhythm, phrasing and musicality, learning different positions, processionals/bell trees, bass bell techniques, four-in-hand and Shelley ringing. This track is designed for intermediate and advanced ringers.
Beginning Handbells Track:
Are you new to handbells, not sure how to get started? Handbells from A to Z! Topics to be addressed include: bell parts, warm-ups and stretches, making the bell sound, damping styles, rhythms, stopped sounds, handbell notation, basic care of the bell, basic technique, how to recruit ringers and more. Beginning ringers and directors welcome.
The event includes a performance from Bells of the Lakes featuring the music for BellFest 2013. Saturday’s sessions run from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. Registration will be available beginning in May 2012.

Time: Check-in starts at 8:30, Classes begin at 9:00 and wrap up around 4:30.
